Political Evolution & Electoral History

The Indian National Congress (INC) governed Tamil Nadu (then Madras State) between 1947 and 1967, an era celebrated as the 'Golden Age of Kamarajar', when free school education, mid-day meals, major dams, and extensive industrial estates were established across the state.

Since 1967, Congress has functioned primarily as an indispensable alliance kingmaker in Tamil Nadu state politics. In the 2026 assembly election, Congress contested as a key partner in the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, securing 6 assembly seats.
